Friday, 19 January 1945 San Antonio Express-News (page 10) obituary with photograph. Requiem mass for Miss Helen Hoffmann, 33, who died Wednesday at the family residence, 126 W. Agarita St., was held Thursday morning at St. Mary’s Church with Rev. John Quinlivan officiating.
A native of San Antonio, she was the daughter of the late William R. Hoffmann, founder of a local coffee company (the Hoffmann-Hayman Coffee Company). She attended Incarnate Word College. Died aged 33, born approximately 1911–1912 — most likely after her father’s June 1909 marriage and before his January 1912 death.
Survivors: mother, Mrs. William J. Schlosser (née Minnie Menger Hoffmann); sister Mildred; grandmother Mrs. C. B. Menger; and six Menger uncles who served as pallbearers: Ed, August, Gus, Louis, Rudolph, and Ted Menger.
Helen was the namesake of Texas Girl Coffee, per the September 1937 The News social column identifying her as “Miss Helen Hoffmann, 126 W. Agarita, daughter of the late Wm. R. Hoffmann Sr.” Death notice appeared the prior day: Express-News, 18 January 1945. Social clips from May 1933 and October 1934 document her life at the same address.
