San Antonio Light "Senior Party List Rises" with item about Miss Ruth Lemoyne Menger's cola party hosted by Mrs. Gus P. Menger — 10 May 1962, p. 30

Society column item in the San Antonio Light of Thursday, 10 May 1962 noting that Miss Ruth Lemoyne Menger, Incarnate Word High School senior and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Gus Menger, was honored with a recent cola party by Mrs. Gus P. Menger in her home — fiesta motif decorations, about 30 classmates attended. Useful genealogical and family-circle confirmation for the Menger family at H&H Coffee Co. just months before the 1962 Continental Coffee sale.

  • Ruth Lemoyne Menger is the daughter of Albert G. Menger and Lemoyne Flaherty (married July 8, 1942 — see the 2 July 1942 society column). The forename “Lemoyne” passes from mother to daughter.
  • The name “Albert Gus Menger” as printed lightly confirms Albert G. Menger’s middle name as Gus (after his father Gus P. Menger). The same Albert G. Menger had been H&H president since May 1960.
  • Mrs. Gus P. Menger (Ruth Lemoyne’s paternal grandmother) hosts the party — suggesting the Gus P. Menger household at 1919 Kenilworth was an active extended-family social venue in May 1962.
  • Ruth’s father Albert G. Menger and grandfather Gus P. Menger appear together a month earlier in the SA Express-News “Generation to Generation” Master Chef ad (HH-CLIP-1962-0005).
