O.S.T. Old Spanish Trail trademark drawing, Tea and Coffee Trade Journal, May 1928

The Tea and Coffee Trade Journal for May 1928 (p. 725) prints the O.S.T. Old Spanish Trail trademark drawing, Serial No. 261,672, in its “Trade Marks Pending in the U. S. Patent Office” mosaic. The mark renders “O. S. T.” in heavy block capitals with “OLD SPANISH TRAIL” set beneath in narrower letterforms, filed by Hoffmann-Hayman Coffee Co. of San Antonio (the same May 1928 mosaic also publishes the company’s San Jose mark, Serial No. 261,671). The O.S.T. brand ties the company’s coffee line to the Old Spanish Trail auto highway that ran from St. Augustine to San Diego through San Antonio — a promotional touchstone Texas roasters used heavily in the late 1920s.
