Hoffmann-Hayman Coffee co. is now the largest independent coffee-roasting company in Texas. TOP STANDARDS Gus P. Menger, president, attributes the company’s steady growth to strict maintenance of top quality standards in the coffees being marketed under Master Chef, H and H and other brands.
These brands are created from blends of the world’s richest, finest coffees—to suit the special tastes of south Texas coffee drinkers, Menger said. He added: “Ever since Hoffman-Hayman Coffee co. was established more than 50 years ago, this company’s goals have been to constantly improve our products, and to improve and expand our coffee roasting and packing facilities. Today, our company’s plant includes the industry’s latest and finest equipment for producing highest grade coffees.”
S. A. GROWTH Fifty years ago, Menger commented, San Antonio’s population was only 75,000. Today, the San Antonio metropolitan area totals more than 600,000 population—an 8-fold increase in 50 years. Other markets served by Hoffman-Hayman Coffee co. have also grown tremendously, Menger said, creating needs for expanding plant facilities which have been met by the company. Menger is widely recognized in the coffee industry as an expert buyer of fine coffees. He and his son, Albert G. Menger, taste-test samples daily at the coffee roasting plant, to select the choicest, richest grades of coffee from top coffee producing countries—for use in the company’s products.
LARGEST SELLER In addition to enjoying increasing consumer popularity for its Master Chef and H and H brands of coffee, Hoffman-Hayman Coffee co. is also the largest producer and seller of institutional brands of coffee in the San Antonio and surrounding market areas. More than half of all restaurant, cafe, hotel and other institutional users of coffee are served daily by Hoffman-Hayman Coffee co. from its San Antonio plant.
Officers of the Hoffmann-Hayman Coffee co. are: Gus P. Menger, president; R. W. Menger, executive vice president; Albert G. Menger, secretary, and T. J. Menger, treasurer. John C. Burkholder is general sales manager of the company.
