Clubs Win $6,500 From KENS

A host of San Antonio civic clubs, in a final awards party at the Hilton Hotel Monday night, received $6,500 in cash prizes from KENS Radio through its Community Club Awards program.

St. John’s Lutheran Church Christian Fellowship Group, which earned $1,115 through work of its members in both weekly and final awards, was top winner in the 13-week Community Club Awards. The group won a $500 cash award after having already piled up $615 during weekly competition.

Other Winners

Other final award winners were the Sunflower Camp of Royal Neighbors of America, $300; St. James Parish Council of Catholic Women, $200; Alamo Heights Opti-Mrs. Club, $150; Alpha Chi Omega Alumnae, $100; Daughters of the U.S. Army, Fort Sam Houston Chapter, $50; Lanier Blue Jackets, $500; Women’s Club of Hollywood Park, $300; St. Benedict’s P-T.C., $200; Our Lady of the Lake Alumnae, $150; Grace Lutheran Church Women of the Church, $100, and Highland Park Lutheran Church Women of the Church, $50.

Twenty-one leading San Antonio business firms sponsored KENS’ Community Club Awards program. By patronizing these sponsors, collecting proofs of their patronage and turning them in to KENS each week, winners earned their rewards.

Monday night’s party marked the close of the second Community Club Awards program conducted by KENS Radio this year.

Third Cycle?

“The enthusiasm with which Community Club Awards has been received in San Antonio has prompted KENS to consider conducting a third cycle beginning Feb. 14,” said Station Mgr. Herb Carl. “Final plans will be announced later.”

Carl was master of ceremonies at Monday night’s session. Annie Wheat Smith, Community Club Awards director for the station, presented the awards.
