UTSA (University of Texas at San Antonio)
San Antonio public university. Founded 1969; main campus at One UTSA Circle (NW San Antonio); downtown campus on the western edge of downtown SA. For the H and H Coffee Factory project, UTSA’s primary relevance is as the host of UTSA Special Collections — one of the principal repositories of San Antonio commercial / industrial / civic primary-source material.
UTSA Special Collections
UTSA’s archival division (often referenced in the KB simply as “the UTSA collection” or “UTSA Special Collections”) holds research material cited or sought across the project:
- City directory series — Morrison & Fourmy and successor San Antonio city directories covering H&H operating decades (1900s–1960s). Cited as the resolution path for multiple
places/stubs that explicitly wait on city-directory research: 1008-hoefgen, 1223-west-commerce, 208-east-commerce, 307-north-medina, 533-delaware-street, 331-burnett-street. - Architectural drawings — flagged on Morris, Nooman, and Wilson as a candidate repository for the architect’s 1932 H&H Delaware Street factory drawings.
- Stanford P. Stevens material — cited from people/stanford-p-stevens.md as a source for late-period H&H corporate documents.
- Summerville Photos thread. The two large-format Summerville Photo Co. panoramic prints held by Nancy Draves — the 1929 employee group photo and the 1936 annual picnic photo — would naturally find a home at UTSA Special Collections if donated. Scanning is the immediate ask; institutional deposit is a longer-term consideration.
Related programs and faculty
The University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) — a separate San Antonio institution, founded by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word — should not be confused with UTSA, but is mentioned in the KB because Tim Draves (Nancy Draves’s husband; MA, U.S. History, UTSA 2005) is a UIW lecturer with direct working access to both UIW Archives (the Menger Family Collection) and his UTSA graduate-school network.

Open questions
- Catalog query. Does UTSA Special Collections hold any H&H corporate records (annual reports, correspondence, sales sheets) beyond the city-directory references? A general catalog search for “Hoffmann-Hayman” / “H and H” / “Master Chef Coffee” would establish baseline holdings.
- Access logistics. Reading-room hours, advance-request requirements, copying/imaging policy for the city-directory and Sanborn-map series most often cited from H&H research.
- Architectural drawings. Specifically whether the Morris, Nooman, and Wilson 1932 H&H Delaware Street plans are held at UTSA (vs. UIW, the Witte, or the Bexar County Archives).
