Smith Print H and H Advertising
A patch of stucco peeled away from a brick building to expose hand-painted H & H lettering underneath, a ghost sign that had been sealed out of sight for decades. It is hard to say whether the painting was a formal advertisement placed by the company or simply signage identifying a grocer or warehouse that stocked the brand, but either way the exposed brick offers a rare glimpse at how H and H Coffee was marketed at street level in the pre-1930s era. Alongside the find sits a rounded H&H coffee tin with an embossed lid from the same period, giving the painted wall some physical context in the collection.
