Hoffman Beverage Co. Soda Labels, Newark NJ 1933

less than 1 minute read

Four unused paper soda-bottle labels fanned out for the photograph, all from Hoffman Beverage Co. of Newark, New Jersey, and copyright-dated 1933. The front label is the “HOFFMAN ROOT BEER” variant — a red “H” monogram in the “SERVE COLD — WITH ICE” banner above the brand name, a diamond cartouche of cinnamon sticks and spices, and the flavor panel: “Made from a variety of choice roots, barks, herbs, spices and aromatic oils…”, “1 Pt. 13 Fluid Oz.” Behind it sit three more flavors in the same layout — a green-“H” version of the logo on a “MORE DRY — LESS SWEET” label and two others partially obscured. Hoffman Beverage was a wholly separate New Jersey soda bottler and has no corporate connection to San Antonio’s Hoffmann-Hayman Coffee, but the shared surname collects a steady stream of cousin-company ephemera onto the auction pile, so we keep a few for comparison.
