Second Three Rivers 601-1 Crystalvac Jar (No Lid)
A second H and H Coffee Crystalvac jar in the 601-1 Three Rivers Glass Co. mold — clear glass, one-pound size, acquired without its lid. The 601-1 is the earliest of the Three Rivers Crystalvac revisions represented in the collection’s patent-number run (601-1, -3, -4, -5, -7), and Three Rivers produced the one-pound Crystalvacs in clear and amber from 1932 until Ball Brothers bought out the plant in 1937, which places this jar in that five-year window. Without its lid the piece documents the body form and the embossed base markings rather than the full vacuum-pack hardware.
This specimen is a sibling to the quart 601-1 already on the shelf — see Clear Crystalvac Quart Jar, Mold 601-1 — and together they give us two examples of the same mold in two different sizes, which is useful for comparing the embossing stack across jar bodies. A photo of this specific jar is still outstanding; in the meantime, the teaser image is the 2017 quart-size 601-1 base, which carries the same “3 RIVERS G / Crystalvac / CONTAINER / REG. U.S. PAT. OFF. / 601-1” stack we expect on this acquisition.
