Gus P. Menger portrait crop — San Antonio Light, 21 Nov 1937

Tight head-and-shoulders portrait crop of Gus P. Menger from the San Antonio Light “Plant output is increased” item, 21 November 1937, page 98. The halftone shows Menger in a suit and round eyeglasses, smiling into the camera; the original caption read “GUS P. Menger / Guides activities of H and H plant.”
For brand and family history this isolate is the working leadership headshot for the second-generation Menger management of Hoffmann-Hayman: Gus P. Menger appears in the 1937 News vacuum-can feature as president of the company, and this Light portrait is the most usable contemporaneous face-of-the-company image for the 601 Delaware Street modernization era. It is the same column-portrait the paper paired with the “We Roast It. Others Praise It.” slogan.
